CBS is being very careful not mention the name "Martha Stewart" in any of the network's press materials, but it's clear that somebody has noticed a cultural need in her absence. Since Stewart may be facing time in jail, CBS has ordered a new reality series based around the search for the next domestic diva (or dude, apparently).

Although Roseanne Barr has already volunteered for domestic goddess duties, CBS is looking elsewhere with the help of LMNO Productions.

"Reality television is the perfect genre for a talent search because it allows the audience to experience the star-making process," says Eric Schotz, president and CEO of LMNO Productions. "In this show, the bar is high and we are looking for more than a star. We are looking for an icon."

The series will pit 12 aspiring home mavens in a series of housekeeping challenges in categories including gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, crafts, floral arranging and decorating. The 12 finalists will live together in a house somewhere in the Northeast. Each week, one person will be eliminated for failing to bring enough flair and ingenuity to their duties.

"Finding the next lifestyle guru is a very popular topic of conversation," says Ghen Maynard, CBS's sr. vice president of alternative series development. "What better way to find the new icon than to have contenders put on their gardening gloves and duke it out for the title."

Casting information is available on CBS' web site.
